Hooray, he put a ring on it! Before you start scheduling your weekly mani appointments to compliment your new bling, here are three things you should do with your engagement ring.
1. Get Insurance.
Your engagement ring is probably one of the most valuable pieces of jewelry you will wear on a daily basis. While insurance can not replace the sentimental value of your ring, it can soften the financial blow of replacement. I would hate to lose my ring and everything that it stands for, but I know I would be devastated if I had to replace the ring out of pocket. Here’s a good article that explains the basics of how to get your new bling insured.
2. Give your ring a home.
While taking your ring off to wash your hands in a public restroom is a big no no, you’re bound to take off your ring while you’re at home. You can’t leave your precious ring laying around the house. Instead, give it a home. There are tons of beautiful ring holders that are designed to make sure you know where your ring is at all times. Don’t lose your ring at home. If you do…see step 1.
3) Schedule maintenance
There are a bunch of at home jewelry cleaners that you can use throughout the year to keep your ring nice and blingy, but nothing replaces the TLC of a jeweler. It’s super important to schedule maintenance appointments with your jeweler. At least once a year, you want to make sure the diamond (or diamonds) isn’t loose, the prongs are tight, and there are no hairline cracks in the shank. Your jeweler should also professionally clean your ring so it looks brand new. If your ring is white gold, make sure you schedule a yearly rhodium treatment to keep your ring shiny and white.
